Airborne microorganisms in the environment are the biggest challenge in maintaining a low bioburden count in controlled premises. Bioburden in the air can be contributed by human movement, insufficient cleaning processes and poor efficacy of detergents. Regular monitoring of air quality, environmental or work surfaces as well as personal hygiene is crucial to verify the efficacy of sanitizing or disinfecting techniques, especially in the food, pharmaceutical and healthcare industries, as poor hygiene may cause cross contamination of food or finished products.
